Our thoughts and what goes on in our minds make up our lives. 

Hello everyone! My name is Sara Childers, women's holistic health dietitian nutritionist. In the previous two episodes, we talked about what it means to become a fully feminine woman. A woman that embodies God's biological design for our lives. Then we also talked about the our bodies a bit. Which we will continue to talk about and build upon. But this episode, I want to talk about our minds. Mindset, thought patterns and how they effect us on every level. 

In today's fast-paced world, women's health is often shaped by a myriad of societal influences. From media messages to traditional medical practices, understanding these factors is crucial for women seeking to live balanced, healthy lives. Let's explore how societal norms and beliefs impact women's health and well-being.

Because here is a little secret for you. Money and time don't matter when it comes to health. Not really anyways. After working with hundreds of women on their health, I have notices that those who are stuck and stay stuck in the long haul in the worst way with their health are those with the worst mindsets. Those who flourish are the ones with the better mindset. Not perfect, but better. That's facts. It matters. 

Mindset plays a pivotal role in women's health. As highlighted in the Metabolic Wisdom Podcast, the beliefs we hold about ourselves and our bodies can significantly influence our physical and mental well-being. Biblical teachings emphasize the importance of guarding one's heart and mind, underscoring the need for a mindset that embraces self-awareness and positivity. Personal stories of mindset shifts can serve as powerful examples of transformation.

 

Since we are great Christian women, let's look at some scriptures.

"Above all else, guard your heart - for everything you do flows from it" Proverbs 4:23 

Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."

Listen, no one is perfect except for Jesus Christ himself. None of his apostles were perfect and neither is you or me. I wish I could say that most of the lessons that I have learned about my thought life have been from success and good mindset, but on the contrary, most of the lessons that I have learned are from what I have gotten wrong. From failing (or Faithful Attempts In Learning). Which is a better explanation of the word "FAIL". 

The media often bombards women with conflicting messages about health and beauty. From diet fads to beauty standards, these messages can create confusion and unrealistic expectations. It's important for women to critically evaluate these influences and prioritize their own well-being over societal pressures. By doing so, they can make informed health choices that align with their values.

I have been on this journey pretty intensely since about 2022. I started therapy then finished it up. Met my husband and continued to work on it. Change is a humbling experience. It's often a silent experience as well. No one knew that I was reading all of these books, listening to podcasts, consciously trying to meditate on better thoughts -- but I have been able to see huge changes! 

Your mind starts with your beliefs. When you change your beliefs, you can change everything. I think this is what is being taught in the verses that I mentioned above. It sounds so prosperity gospel, but it's true. You think what you believe. Can thoughts, mindset, and beliefs change your health as well? I think so.

Jerome Groopman, MD, the physician who wrote the book "Anatomy of Hope" says in his book that our change in mindset can have the power to alter neurochemistry. Hope specifically - can even block pain by releasing the brain's endorphins and enkephalins, mimicking the effects of morphine. 

God equips us for the pains of life through hope but it requires beliefs, rewiring, consciousness. THAT'S POWERFUL!

For some of us, this may mean an entire mindset re-haul. Clearing the clutter and "Marie Condo-ing" our minds. Being really honest with ourselves on what thoughts are "trash" and what's "treasure".

I am kind of going around in circles here but the point I want to get across is that I don't think people realize how much they are in their own way. Most of us struggle with the mind because we have been conditioned to let too many things into our minds in this modern age. Most of us struggle with 

  • social media (dissatisfaction)
  • overconsumption
  • busyness 
  • distraction
  • isolation
  • individualism
  • perfectionism (which is the highest form of self abuse, by the way)
  • trauma (when our minds are fractured by trauma, we lose discernment in our thought life)

These things cause us to creation false beliefs in our own minds. I think it's a survival mechanism. These lies put on repeat create thought patterns and bring down our vibrational frequency which literally causes the atoms that our cells are made out of to not function properly. 

Overall, I think the biggest issue is that we have a lot of input without a lot of output or correction in our crappy thoughts. We think so many clouded, incorrect thoughts. We repeated are intaking tips, facts, inspiration, recipes, and thinking about all the things that we need to do. We waste all of our time doing this. Then we wonder why we aren't doing all of the things that we have been watching and consuming and we think we are failures because we aren't doing all 18 of the things that our favorite instagram influencer does for their morning routine. We end up feeling like failures. Not thinking that we can achieve the things we want to achieve. 

 

The traditional medical system, particularly in Western societies, has a significant impact on women's health. While it offers valuable treatments, it's essential to question and understand the implications of certain practices, such as the widespread use of birth control. Women should seek holistic approaches that align with their unique needs and values, empowering themselves to make informed decisions about their health.

 

The Role of Community and Connection

Isolation and individualism can negatively affect women's health. Building a supportive community and engaging in meaningful connections can provide emotional support and enhance overall well-being. Women should seek out communities that empower and uplift them, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

Practical Steps for Empowerment

To navigate societal influences effectively, women can take practical steps to empower themselves. Cultivating a positive mindset and self-awareness is crucial. Additionally, critically evaluating media messages and medical advice can lead to more informed health choices. Building and engaging with supportive communities further enhances well-being and resilience.

 

Navigating women's health in the context of societal influences requires a thoughtful and intentional approach. By fostering a positive mindset, critically evaluating media messages, questioning traditional medical practices, and building supportive communities, women can take charge of their health and live fulfilling lives.
